당신은 결핍의 상태가 사라지길 바라며 동시에 가능성을 확장시키고 싶은가요? 그렇다면 뒤로 남겨두어야 할 말은 바로 ‘원하다’ 입니다.

원한다는 것은 이유, 노력, 필요, 하지만 결코 이룰 수 없는 등의 말이 따라붙게 되는데 이는 각각이 일정한 제약을 내포하고 있기 때문입니다. ‘원한다’는 말은 본질적으로 ‘결핍/부족’의 의미를 가지고 있습니다.

그렇기 때문에 ‘나는 돈을 원한다’라는 말은 ‘나는 돈이 부족하다’라는 당신의 시각과 사실 그 자체를 강조하는 말과도 같습니다.

만일 당신이 실제로 원하는 게 더 많은 돈이라면 대신 이렇게 질문해보세요. 예를 들어 “내 인생에 돈이 굴러들어 오게 하려면 어떻게 해야할까?” 질문은 언제나 당신이 원하는 변화를 만들어낼 수 있는 방법을 찾도록 도와줄 것입니다.

그러니 앞으로 ‘원한다’는 말(또는 이유, 노력, 필요, 하지만 결코 이룰 수 없는 등의 말)을 하는 자신을 발견할 때마다 하던 말을 멈추고 웃으며 질문해보세요. “이것 대신 내가 진정 원하는 것을 이루도록 돕는 어떤 다른 질문을 할 수 있을까?”
