만일 삶에서 뭔가 끝없이 바꾸고자 노력하고 있지만 효과가 없는 것이 있을 땐 질문해 보세요.“이것에 관해 내가 좋아하는 부분은 무엇인가?”

당신은 얼마만큼 자신이 좋아하는 것을 바꾸거나 또는 그대로 내버려두고자 하나요? 그다지 원하지 않나요? 혹은 전혀 그렇지 않은가요? 다신 가질 수 없을 것이란 공포심에 혼란스러움을 느낀 적이 있나요? (예를 들어 나쁜 인간관계가 아예 없는 것보단 차라리 낫다는 식)

자신과 맞지 않는 뭔가가 있을 때에는 먼저 그것의 어떤 부분을 자신이 좋아하는지를 명확히 하도록 하세요. 그런 다음 다음과 같은 다른 질문들을 던져볼 수 있습니다. “내 삶에 더 크게 기여할 수 있을만한 것들을 찾기 위해서 어떻게 하면 좋을까?” 그리고 “나와 맞지 않는 이 부분들을 어떻게 하면 내가 상상할 수 있는 그 이상으로 근사하게 변화시킬 수 있을까?”

당신이 좋아하는 것이 무엇인지가 분명하고 이를 넘겨버리거나 혹은 변화시키기로 마음 먹은 이상 더는 이로 인해 괴로워하지는 않을 것입니다. 그 대신 당신은 이를 선택할 것인지 선택하지 않을 것인지에 관한 자유를 얻게 될 것입니다.
