당신의 삶에서 들러붙어 질척거리는 것들을 없애고 싶다면, 먼저 “이건 무엇인가?”라는 질문을 통해 ‘이것’이 무엇인지를 확실히 하도록 하세요.

일단 무엇인지가 명확해지고 나면 당신은 자신이 이를 바꾸고 싶은지 아닌지에 대해 확실히 알 수 있게 될 것입니다. 당신은 얼마나 자주 사실은 마음 깊은 곳에서 (혹은 얕은 곳에서) 변화를 주고 싶지 않기 때문에 이를 바꿀 수 없는 것이라고 생각해버리곤 했나요?

만일 당신이 바꾸고 싶지 않다면 그대로 괜찮습니다. 일단 그렇게 결정하기만 하면 효과도 없이 바꾸려고 자꾸 시도하는 것으로부터 오는 스트레스를 받지 않아도 되니까요. 어쩌면 당신은 타인이 당신에게 그래야 한다고 말했기 때문에 바꾸고 싶다고 생각했을지도 모를 일입니다.

다른 한편으로 만일 당신이 뭔가를 변화시키고 싶다면 당신은 이에 따른 것들을 감수할 마음이 있는 이상 변화할 수 있는 것입니다.

당신은 기꺼이 그렇게 하고자 하나요? 이를 알아내기 위한 질문은 “나는 이것을 바꾸고 싶은가?” 가 될 것입니다.

자신이 원하는 변화를 만들어낼 수 없다고 느끼는 이유는 당신이 무엇을 하거나 무언가가 되기를 스스로 원하지 않기 때문입니다.
